One Friday afternoon, my Cadette Girl Scout Troop was going to a Cadette Camporee for Broward County. My mom (who is one of the Co-Leaders for my troop) and I drove to the camp site. It was about an hours' drive from where I live. Mrs. Howze, another co-leader, and her daughter Tori, who is a friend of mine, was already there when we arrived.
We started setting up the tents we had brought, because by the time the other girls got there it would be dark and to difficult to set up the tents. There was a big one, and it was hard to set it up, but we managed.
There was a contest for each troop to build a Gateway, on the theme, Fantasy. Our gateway, had streamers, balloons, a carousal with Pegasus instead of horses, a sandbox with sparkling sand, a sky pool and other things. Our theme for it was a "Playground in the Sky."
That night after we set up the gateway, the tents and ate dinner, we went to a camp fire. Later, we went to our tents and told ghost stories 'till we fell asleep. Some girls talked pretty late into the night but eventually everyone fell asleep.
When we got up in the morning we had a breakfast of bagels, cream cheese, juice, water and cereal. We cleaned up the mess we made and got washed up and ready for the day. In the morning we went to workshops where we worked on projects to fulfill badge requirements; Creative Cooking, The Law, Backpacking, Child Care, and a work shop about the Silver Award were among them. My favorite was Creative Cooking. There was two different activities for that badge: for one we cooked a biscuit on a stick over the camp fire, and the other we decorated cakes. That activity was hard too get into-- everyone kept on rushing to get in line when the whistle blew to switch activities, but it was worth the hassle. One of the other activities was for the badge, The Law. I had completed the required activities for this badge before the camporee but I did it anyway. We voted on subjects like our favorite past time presidents and our favorite food ; also we talked about voting with the person who was running that activity.
After we finished those badge activities we ate lunch. We had sandwiches and chips. During the afternoon we did different activities like Land Skis where four people put their feet in these bands on two pieces of wood so everyone had to walk at the same time or you would all fall down. My group kept on falling down. Another of the activities was Zippy fire starters where you had to use these wood chips and stuff to start a fire, then burn the string that was tied above it. Mine caught on fire fast but the string took a while to burn.
In the evening we had BBQ chicken, corn on the cob, rolls, and some other things I did not try. For dessert we had the cakes that we had decorated earlier in the day. We also had the Skit contest. Our troop was first. I was not in the group who sung because my patrol had to do other things before, so we never got to practice. They lip-synced to the song "I'm Every Woman." Everyone went to sleep after the contest.
The next morning we went to the awards presentation. Our troop did not win anything. Your camp site had to be inspected before you left to make sure you left it clean. Our troop had cleaned up before the presentation so we were ready. We were the first to be inspected and we passed. Everyone went home after the inspection, so that brings us to...........
